Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, has softened his formerly firm attitude and urged the people to cheer on the cricket team in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

“It is not appropriate to discuss [the matter] further at this juncture,” Naqvi stated in an exclusive interview with Geo News on Wednesday outside the Parliament House. “The consultation is ongoing.”

After the team’s dismal performance in the major tournament, he was asked for his thoughts on the measures under discussion.

The Green Shirts are headed for an early tournament departure after dropping their first two games. The results of previous games determine Pakistan’s path to the Super 8 stage.

There are still games to be played in the league stage, therefore the PCB president recommended the country to “wait for the tournament’s final result” in response to the query.

Reiterating that the team still requires assistance, Mohsin Naqvi insisted that “we have to move ahead” in the competition using the present squad.

According to the chairman of the board, everyone is hoping for the squad to advance. Naqvi had voiced his unhappiness in the Pakistani squad following their defeat against India earlier this week.

He insisted that the squad needed a “major surgery” because of how poorly they performed.

A small surgery appeared to be the solution, but following this poor outcome, I’m positive that a large operation is necessary. There will be a significant change in the country shortly, Naqvi added.
