IPL 2024: After recovering from injury, Sandeep Sharma took five wickets, and Jaiswal’s century enabled the Rajasthan Royals finish first in the Jaipur leg.

The Rajasthan Royals ended their home stand at Sawai Mansingh Stadium with a nine-wicket thumping of the Mumbai Indians, capping off an incredible night that saw them win four of their previous five games there this year. Before they relocate their bases to Guwahati for the remainder of the season, that may also solidify their playoff position.
For the first time this season, Jaiswal chose the ideal hour to call forth a torrent of boundaries even though there were no rain signs on the radar.

Riding a Run of Poor Scores

Riding a run of poor scores, Jaiswal held his ground against Jasprit Bumrah and the hard-hitting newcomer Nuwan Thushara before capitalizing on Gerald Coetzee’s meek speed. He gave five fours and a six in an instant, then waltzed back to his best. Rajasthan reached 61 on the powerplay thanks to Jaiswal and Jos Buttler, and then the heavens opened for over forty minutes.

Though Buttler was distracted by the rain break, the ravenous Jaiswal was not going to let this one get away. In response to the opposing spin of IPL veterans Piyush Chawla and Mohammed Nabi, Jaiswal raced to his maiden half-century in 31 balls and then doubled up for a stunning 59-ball ton that included 15 boundaries. With the help of careless fielding and MI’s slipping hold on the ball, Jaiswal and captain Sanju Samson easily finished the 180-run chase.

IPL 2024- Jaiswal's century

Ironically, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya was happy with his decision to bat first on a dry wicket, citing a relative lack of dew. Still, Sandeep Sharma and Trent Boult hardly needed twenty minutes to upset Mumbai’s batting order. In the opening over, Boult caught Rohit Sharma off guard once more. Sharma’s lack of decisiveness against the left-armer allowed for a reckless slog that lofted into Samson’s gloves.

The coming back Sandeep took advantage of Ishan Kishan’s apprehensions over the movement and discovered a weak outside edge, which Samson successfully reviewed from behind the stumps. Then Sandeep moved on to oust the intimidating Suryakumar Yadav. He hit with a brilliant delivery that defied Surya’s timing, a sinking, cross-seamed slower ball that ended with a meek chip to the mid-on fielder.

Mumbai Indians second sub-50 powerplay of the season, both against the Royals, resulted from the early damage.

The response from Tilak-Wadhera and Sandeep’s great return

Mumbai Indians only hinted at a semblance of a return because of the extra effort put in by Tilak Varma (65), and Nehal Wadhera. During the middle overs, the left-handed duo amassed 99 runs for the fifth wicket, dismissing Avesh Khan and Yuzvendra Chahal while rendering R Ashwin wicketless for the sixth time in a row.

IPL 2024- At the death, nevertheless, the Royals severely reined in their excess. Wadhera was dismissed by Chahal on 49 in his debut, but an uncoordinated Avesh’s low full-toss caught an unmotivated Hardik.

IPL 2024 Sandeep Sharma took five wickets

After missing five games due to injury, Sandeep finished his comeback with his first-ever five-wicket performance. As MI had a second breakdown in the innings, he coated Tilak (65), Tim David, and Coetzee with a smooth spread of slower deliveries.

Brief scores:

Rajasthan Royals (RR) 183/1 in 18.4 overs(Yashasvi Jaiswal 104 not out, Sanju Samson 38 not out) defeated Mumbai Indians 179/9 in 20 overs (Tilak 65, Wadhera 49; Sandeep Sharma 5/18) by nine wickets.
