IPL 2024, MS Dhoni: Debate over MS Dhoni batting order, Australia’s two greats clash!
Mahendra Singh Dhoni played an unbeaten innings of 37 runs in the match against Delhi Capitals. However, Dhoni could not save his team from defeat. There are calls for Dhoni to be sent higher in the batting order.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost by 20 runs against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 13th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Chennai Super Kings might face defeat in this match but former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the hearts of the fans with his batting.
Dhoni came in to bat at number eight and scored an unbeaten 37 runs. During this time he hit three sixes and four fours. Dhoni did not bat in the first two matches.
Smith and Clarke have different opinions about Dhoni
Now there is a demand to send Mahendra Singh Dhoni higher in the batting order. However, the opinion of Australian legend Michael Clarke and Steve Smith is divided in this regard. Steve Smith believes that Dhoni’s arrival to bat in the top order will benefit the Chennai team. Meanwhile, Michael Clarke believes that Dhoni will continue to play the role of a finisher like before.
‘He should come up the order,’ said Steve Smith. He is hitting the ball well. It was truly incredible to watch, while Ravindra Jadeja on the other hand was struggling to do so. His fans also want him to come in to bat in the upper order.
Former Australia captain Michael Clarke said, ‘I don’t think they will. I am sure he will come in to bat in the current order. I know every Mahendra Singh Dhoni fan wants to see him bat at the top order as much as possible. Throughout his career we have all been saying that he should open the innings.
Michael Clarke added, ‘Because he is hitting the ball well, I don’t think he will come in to bat at number five or six. He is the best finisher I have ever seen. So I think the team will continue to use the role in the future as well.
Will Dhoni come to bat?
The chances of Mahendra Singh Dhoni coming to bat in the upcoming matches are very less. Dhoni himself is keen to play the role of a finisher. He has been doing this for many years. Anyway, CSK is full of young and experienced players. Currently, Richan Ravindra and Rituraj Gaikwad are opening.
Then come players like Ajinkya Rahane, Shivm Dubey, Daryl Mitchell, Sameer Rizvi and Ravindra Jadeja. These players are shorter than Dhoni and like Dhoni are also skilled in aggressive batting. In such a situation, Dhoni will also want these talented players to get a chance to bat in front of him.
Dhoni stepped down as captain before the start of this season to prepare a new leadership. Rituraj Gaikwad then took over the reins. The 42-year-old Dhoni underwent a knee operation last year. In such a situation, his fitness is also a question mark.
