IPL 2024 CSK Vs PBKS- The Punjab Kings scored another victory away from home at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. They triumphed over the reigning champions, the Chennai Super Kings, on Wednesday. This happened during match no. 49 of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
PBKS bowlers managed to restrict Chennai to a score of 161 for 7, excelling particularly in spin bowling. The chase was successful due to key performances from Jonny Bairstow, who hails from England, and South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw. They secured the win in less runs and balls: 7 wickets and 13 balls were left unused.
Sam Curran, the fill-in leader for PBKS, sent CSK to the wicket. For the first time, the fresh opening duo of skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ajinkya Rahane worked well. They scored 64 runs together! Rahane, the experienced player, hit 29 runs out of 24 balls before departing in the game’s ninth over. Harpreet Brar made that possible. This is part of their ongoing venture.
Shivam Dube, recently selected to play for India in the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup, had a short stint at the pitch. He was dismissed early by the Punjab spinner, leaving the field for a golden duck.
Chennai’s third wicket quickly fell when top all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja got out for only two runs. He got caught by Rahul Chahar’s turn ball. As things changed, Samir Rizvi replaced Rahane, who was out. The team was hoping Rizvi would make a difference.

In the cricket match, the new pitch was slow. This affected the game as the spin bowlers successfully limited the number of runs after a hopeful beginning by Chennai. However, team captains Gaikwad and Rizvi managed to endure the difficult period. Chennai finally saw some success after a long dry spell of thirty-six balls. This happened when Harshal Patel made a large throw, surpassing wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma, landing a boundary and scoring four runs.
Gaikwad kept shining at Chepauk, scoring his fourth back-to-back fifty at the ground to loud cheers. Then Rabada snatched 21 off 23 from Rizvi. Moeen Ali stepped up. The crowd roared louder when popular MS Dhoni took the bat towards the end, after Gaikwad was stopped by Arshadeep Singh’s fast bowling.
Ali, an English player, struggled during the Punjabi showdown. Chahar struck him out, marking his second triumph for the day. Then Daryl Mitchell came in, six down. The Kiwi, who had crushed the last game with an amazing half-century, failed to shake things up this time. However, Dhoni, the crowd’s darling, stunned everyone with a boundary in the last over. Chennai ended with a score of 162 before their loved hero was caught unprepared in the last pitch of the home game.
Jonny Bairstow teamed up with Prabhsimran Singh
Jonny Bairstow teamed up with Prabhsimran Singh to start the pursuit for the visitors. However, CSK clinched an early score when Richard Gleeson, a new player, caught out Singh. This catch was assisted by the captain, Gaikwad. Following this, Bairstow partnered with Rilee Rossouw of South Africa, achieving a half-century stand. Unfortunately, Bairstow’s run halted, missing his half-century by just four. This was due to the skilled move by Shivam Dube who caught him out, with Dhoni’s helping gloves behind.
The South African player gave Punjab a significant boost, propelling his team past a hundred runs in just the 12th over of the game. His contribution, along with Shashank Singh, added 30 runs for the third wicket, creating a steady tempo. However, their partnership was disrupted by Shardul Thakur. He skillfully bowled out the Protea batter, who had scored a quick 43 runs from only 23 balls.
